Every year the major TV broadcast networks announce their schedules. At this time we experience broken hearts when our favorite shows are canceled,. We experience euphoria when they are renewed for another season. It just goes to show, never get too comfy with the fates of your favorite shows. You never know what will be renewed for another season, what will be canceled, and what show from your childhood will be rebooted for a new series.
Top Renewals:
The Blacklist (NBC): Renewed for Season 5
Raymond “Red” Reddington, a former U.S. Navy officer turned high-profile criminal, voluntarily surrenders to the FBI after eluding capture for decades. Red and the gang will be lighting up the small screen again. They will continue to go down the list hunting for those that are deserving of justice. They’ll also hunt those that are on Red’s own personal list as well. The Blacklist has always aired on Thursday nights at 10 pm. This year, it will move to Wednesdays at 9 pm when it returns in the Fall.
Chicago Med (NBC): Renewed for Season 3
Chicago Med follows the emergency department doctors and nurses of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center as they tackle unique new cases and forge fiery relationships in the pulse-pounding pandemonium of the emergency room. Chicago Med will move to Thursdays at 10 p.m. but will premiere midseason, meaning fans may have to wait until November to January for a new season.
Scandal (ABC): Ending with Season 7
Season 6 the Scandal continues of Olivia Pope’s crisis management firm, Olivia Pope & Associates, and its employees, as well as staff at the White House in Washington, D.C. as they deal with and contain political scandals. Scandal will air its seventh and final season this coming fall. The decision to end the popular show came from the creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes, who felt it was time to bid farewell to these beloved characters and that they are “going all out” in the final season.
Stranger Things (Netflix): Renewed for Season 2
Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, Stranger Things focuses on the disappearance of a young boy. Amid supernatural events occurring around the town, a psychokinetic girl who help the missing boy’s friends in their search. Season two picks up the story a year later and addresses the attempts of the characters to return to normal and deal with the consequences of the first season.

Will & Grace (NBC):
After 4 years, Will and Grace is returning for a 16 episode series this fall. The 2006 series’ finale ended with a time-jump showing Will and Grace 20 years into the future, dropping their children off at college. However, the revival will show Will and Grace single and living together. This is due to circumstances that the first episodes of the season will explain.
Rosanne (ABC):
After more than 2 decades off the air Rosanne is returning to television. ABC recently announced an eight-episode reboot of the popular sitcom, which ran for nine seasons from 1988 to 1997. In the 1997 series finale John Goodman’s character met his maker. However, it is confirmed that he will return for the new series.

Last Man Standing (ABC): Canceled
Last Man Standing tells the story of Mike Baxter, a senior executive and director of marketing for an outdoor sporting goods store chain based in Denver, Colorado. His world is filled with his wife, three daughters, and grandson. After 6 seasons, ABC cancelled the series despite being the second most-watched ABC sitcom during the 2016-2017 season and steady ratings. Representatives from 20th Century Fox said the decision was made due to a scheduling decision and an expiring contract with 20th Century Fox. Had the series been renewed for a seventh season, ABC would have been required to pick up Last Man Standing‘s production costs, which the network was unwilling to do.
2 Broke Girls (CBS): Canceled
2 Broke Girls tells the story of Max Black and Caroline Channing. Caroline was raised as the daughter of a billionaire, Max grew up in poverty, resulting in differing perspectives on life. Together they work in a local diner while attempting to raise funds to start a cupcake business in Brooklyn, New York City. A combination of factors, including declining ratings, CBS’s desire to have an ownership stake, and the network needing to clear space for three new sitcoms in the fall 2017 schedule, led to the show’s cancelation.
